The Spinner Report

Well, here are the results of last weeks Spinner Saturday. We did have some non reporters, but I suspect it's because of the beastly weather most of us have been having (Well, except for Jill, she thrives on beastly weather!). Jill has the high mileage for the week, great job, Jill! (and your killin' us down here in the lower 48 and elsewhere!). Big Mike is a bit on the low side due to an injury to his knee. It's swollen to about the size of a Georgia Watermelon. Get better soon, Mike! Now for the data:

A Lady Who Inspires Me

Meet Jill, a journalist up in Juneau, AK who rides a bike under truly horrendous conditions. Jill is currently in the training phase of preparation for her second riding of the Susitna 100.  This race runs along sections of the Iditarod Trail, up there in the state of Alaska. This is truly a tough bicycle race, pure endurance! You have to have grit to ride it, guaranteed. Last year. Jill just missed the cutoff time to be considered a finish, and was consequently DNF'd (Did Not Finish) according to the race official finishers list. She did finish the course though, with honor as far as I am concerned.Jill is riding it again this year, a race wiser and better prepared mentally and physically for a tough race. This year she knows better what to expect.  Drop by and give Jill some encouragement and support for her race! The Spinner Report will go out later today. See everyone later!

Spinner Saturday, 2006 is over! 2007 starts now!

Well, we did it! 40,403.8 miles as a group, not bad people! Actually, a great job!
1st PlaceI've officially closed the 2006 Spinner Saturday Database and started the 2007 version up. My proposed mileage goal for the group on 2007 is 50,000 miles or better. We CAN do this, so let's give it our best shot! So, without further ado, here's the data for 2006. Feel proud, all of you!Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

My Annual Profile

Well, here's my annual profile for 2006. I tallied my miles and unfortunately, had overestimated my miles a bit. I thought I was around 4000, but am actually at 3740.2 miles

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingWell, I'll do better next year!New YearIn the meantime, we're less than 200 miles from 40K now and the mileage reports are slowly trickling in.Next year, let's try for 50K!

Tour de Cure
On other fronts, I am riding in Tour de Cure on July 14th, in Indianapolis. My fundraising goal is $1000.00. Feel free to drop by my Tour de Cure page and think about making a donation to the American Diabetes Association. It's TAX DEDUCTIBLE and time is running out for this year if you need a last minute deduction for 2006! Here is my Tour de Cure page.

The Last Ride of the Year

This will also be the final Spinner Saturday for 2001, and I'll have the report up after the weekend. Assuming that the riders turn any reasonable amount of miles, then we'll top 40,000 miles as a group. Great job and I'll be starting the database over on January one, 2007! Get me your miles through the end of Dec 31, and Spinner Saturday ends on New years eve at midnight when the ball drops!

If the weather is not wet or snowing, Mrs Stormcrowe and I intend to ride across the new year......yep, a NIGHT RIDE! Yeehaw!

The Spinner Report, Mid December

Welcome to the second Spinner Report for December, 2006! It should be noted that as a group, we've covered 37,061.41 miles for the year. That leaves 2938.59 miles to hit 40,000! Now, there are 25 of us, to split these miles up! Let's go for it.One of our members, Jill, lives up in Alaska, and is a snowbiker! If you are interested in following her exploits, like the Susitna 100, her site is at Blogspot.Well, without further ado, here are the charts:Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Spinner Saturday

Spinner Saturday

Welcome to the first December Spinner Saturday! I'm hoping you are getting some riding in. Mrs Stormcrowe and I were planning to go and ride the Cardinal Greenway Trail today, but the morning was only 24°F. Needless to say, we put the ride off till tomorrow. It's supposed to be up near 50, and wind free, so the ride should be more pleasant! We did get a little 10 mile ride in today, but that was it. Tomorrow should be pretty fun, we're going to try to ride the whole Muncie Section of the trail from Gaston to the south end and back. That will be about 68 miles!

So, to other business, everybody needs to get me their miles for the Spinner Database!

I don't know how many times I've been nearly killed by a driver who is trying to be nice.

For example, I was waiting at a stop sign at a two-way stop. A driver who was crossing in front of me slammed on her brakes and tried to wave me across. I tried to wave at her to keep going. She kept insisting that I go. In the meantime, the drivers behind her were backing up and beginning to honk. One guy didn't have any patience at all so he passed her on their right, just barely missing my front wheel.

I appreciate the intent, but don't try to be nice. Try to be predictable. If you have the right of way, take it. If I have the right of way, I'll take it. And we'll all get home in one piece.

I'll be riding the 100K tour (That's 62 miles) in the Tour de Cure. I am diabetic myself and so is my wife. This is a cause that directly affects my life. I was morbidly obese and wheelchair bound in March, 2005. Since thenn I have lost 352 pounds and my diabetes is in remission and controlled through diet and exercise. Others haven't had my good fortune though and are still dependent on medication to stay alive. Let's got pedaling down that road to a cure!

Help Make a Difference!

Pedal power works!

Each mile I ride, each dollar I raise will be used in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

No matter how small or large, your generous gift will help improve the lives of more than 20 million Americans who suffer from diabetes, in the hope that future generations can live in a world without this disease. Together, we can all make a difference!

Thank you for making a generous contribution to this cause that is so important to me!

Why did a lot of My Images Disappear?

Well, it seems I was slamming the Image Host Servers at the rate of around 1.3terabytes bandwidth consumed/month between all of my mirrors of the blog and other things I do, so they pulled my account due to excess bandwidth usage. It happens, but it's a hassle! I'll be starting from scratch, and posting new graphs and tables on Monday, and going back and reinserting the graphs and images at my new hosts (Plural!)!

The Spinner Report

Sorry, very abbreviated, but here is the report! Big Mike topped the miles this week, good job, Cobber!Just click on the images to enlarge them. I also added a graph showing the profile of the group for the year to date on a monthly basis. I'm as busy as a one armed paperhanger in a windstorm, last month of the semester and I have a couple of major projects working as well as the run up to finals! See y'all later and I'll try to get an email out for Saturday and publish the Spinner Report, but I anticipate being out of town most of the week! So, until then, keep riding!

Spinner Saturday!

Good morning to you! Mrs Stormcrowe and I are getting ready to head out for a little cool air ride! It's that time again, by the way, to report your miles for the database, folks! I'll post more later and perhaps even some pics. Until this evening then, have a great one and keep riding!

Spinner Saturday

Spinner Saturday

Welcome to our first November Spinner Saturday for the year. You might think that as the year slips into Winter, the riding miles are naturally going to go down. This doesn't have to be the case! There are several alternatives.

First is just ride year around. This requires cold weather riding clothes and good sweat management. It is extremely important to avoid getting soaked with sweat riding in frigid air. You have to dress in layers and avoid cotton at all cost. Wool and synthetics are the way to go. Underarmor is one of the best routes, or one of the cheaper alternatives. Synthetic fleece a good alternative for the midlayer, and windproof and water resistant top layers are critical. Don't overdress, just wear sufficient clothing to stay warm. Have a way to vent excess heat, like quarter zip fleece midlayers and jerseys. For the feet......one word! Wool, wool and wool/ synthetic blends have it all over cotton! Wool will keep you warm, even if it gets wet! Another alternative is Seal socks. These are waterproof, with a gortex layer. Neoprene shoe covers also help.

OK, on to our week! Mrs Stormcrowe has 92 miles and I have 156 miles for the week. Let's hear yours!

The Survey in the last post

As you read through the survey I posted in my last post, you may have thought the answer phrasing was unnecessarily harsh. Granted, it was harsh, but reality is seldom pleasant. The issues concerning weight and it's effects on our bodies are harsh as well. I gave myself this self assessment before I decided to go through the surgery. It truly opened my eyes to what I was doing to myself, health wise. As you take this survey below, remember, I assessed myself by these same standards to break through any trace of denial that I was facing serious health issues.

So you can better understand my dilemma, see this video. Many of you have seen it before, but there are many who didn't. It's called my Video Journal. You can see the transformation from somebody literally dying from weight to a fairly healthy person. I'm not all the way back yet, but I'm well on my way!

Spinner Saturday Cyclists Circle the Globe!

First off, the miles to date for 2006 are pretty good as a group! We have ridden a combined total of 25,855.03 miles as of the end of September! Just a point to note: The Earths Circumference at the equator is only 25,044 miles! Note to self: Goal for 2007, 2 laps around the globe for the Spinners! We've circled the globe in miles as well as where the members live! Great job all! I'd like to welcome a couple of people to the Spinner Database, by the way: Cheeseflavor and Cheeselouise from up in Minnesota! Welcome!

Midterms are going pretty well, and my presentation in Abnormal Psych is today, so wish me luck! I'll know the grade in a couple of days. I'm presenting the results of survey I posted on Bike Forums, and would like to thank the members of Foo in Bike Forums for their participation! Bike Forums is located at http://www.bikeforums.net/index.php so drop by! If you enjoy cycling, then it's the home for you! If you are a Clydesdale or an Athena type rider, we have a forum all our own! (A Clydesdale is a male cyclist over 200 pounds and an Athena is a female cyclist over 150!)
